List any significant historical events this individual participated in AND his/her role in these events:
Hannibal had an army of 50,000-80,000 infantry,9,000-12,000 calvary, and 40-60 African war elephants when he was commander of the Carthage army from 220-202 bc. Hannibal led his army from Carthage around Italy and through the Alps to surprise and defeat Rome, their worst enemy.

Iberian city of Saguntum
In this battle, the Romans sent an army of 80,000 men that were led by Scipio to destroy the Carthaginian army. Hannibal had studied the ground and had placed his army in such a way that when the Romans came to the field, they were surronded. He was brilliant. Then he turned his war elephants loose, and they trampled the terrified Romans. Hannibal then sent his African swordsmen to finish the rest of the Roman Army off.

Cannae
At the battle of Cannae, Rome had 86,000 to 90,000 men that were led by Varro,a consul, and Emilus. Hannibal only had 50,000 men so he knew he could not win by his main force, so he planted a "trap" for the Romans. Hannibal placed the weakest part of his army in the center of the battlefield and put his veterans and calvary out of sight on each side of the center. When the Romans came they headed straight for the center just as Hannibal hoped. Just as the Romans thought that they were going to overcome the center, Hannibal and the rest of his army came out and killed 40,000-70,000 Romans, 80 senators, and Emilius, one of the leaders of the Roman Army.

After these battles
Hannibal stayed in Rome for the next 13 years. He traveled from city to city, pillaging each city as he went. Hannibal was finally defeated at Zarma.
Why should future students learn about this individual?
I believe that future students should know about Hannibal because he had the first army that actually succeded in defeating some of Rome's armies. Hannible should also be remembered because he had an army of elephants. I don't think that there are to many of those around, so it's pretty cool. Hannibal was also sure of what he believed in. He had grown up learning that the Romans were the enemies because of what they had done in the past, and he was determined to defeat them. Hannibal was also smart and hard working, so he should be told about in the future.
